Description

What Is Vardenafil?

Vardenafil is a prescription-only treatment used to manage erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It belongs to a group of medicines known as PDE5 inhibitors, which work by improving blood flow to the penis. This helps men achieve and maintain a firmer erection when sexually aroused. Vardenafil is a well-known alternative to Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis), offering reliable performance and multiple strength options to suit individual needs.

What Is Vardenafil Used For?

Vardenafil is prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction. It helps men who find it difficult to get or keep an erection firm enough for sex. The benefits include:

— Supports firmer, longer-lasting erections during sexual activity
— Helps improve sexual performance and confidence
— Provides a fast-acting option with effects lasting up to 4–5 hours

How Does Vardenafil Work?

Vardenafil works by blocking the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which usually limits blood flow after sexual stimulation. By inhibiting this enzyme, Vardenafil allows more blood to flow into the penis during arousal, leading to a stronger erection.

— Boosts blood flow to the penis when sexually stimulated
— Helps maintain an erection firm enough for sex
— Starts working within 30–60 minutes and lasts for up to 4–5 hours

How Should Vardenafil Be Taken?

To get the most from your treatment, follow these usage tips:

— Take 1 tablet around 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity
— Swallow whole with water—can be taken with or without food
— Avoid heavy or fatty meals, which may delay the effect
— Do not take more than 1 tablet in 24 hours
— Sexual stimulation is still required for the medicine to work

Are There Any Side Effects?

Like all medicines, Vardenafil may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.

Common side effects:

— Headache
— Flushing
— Stuffy or runny nose
— Indigestion
— Dizziness

Uncommon or rare side effects:

— Nausea
— Visual changes (e.g. blurred vision or colour tinge)
— Muscle or back pain
— Sleep disturbances

Serious side effects (seek medical attention):

— Chest pain
— Prolonged or painful erections (lasting more than 4 hours)
— Sudden vision or hearing loss
— Signs of an allergic reaction (e.g. swelling, difficulty breathing)

Speak to a doctor if side effects are severe, long-lasting, or worrying.

Who Should Avoid Vardenafil?

This medicine isn’t suitable for everyone. Avoid taking Vardenafil if any of the following apply:

— ED isn’t a concern or hasn’t been diagnosed
— Nitrates or “poppers” are being taken (due to risk of serious blood pressure drop)
— A recent history of heart attack or stroke
— Low blood pressure or certain heart conditions
— Allergic to Vardenafil or any listed ingredient
— Under 18 years of age
— Diagnosed with severe liver or kidney disease

Always speak to a doctor or pharmacist before starting Vardenafil, especially if you take other medications or have long-term health issues.

How Should It Be Stored?

To keep your tablets safe and effective:

— Store below 30°C
— Keep in the original packaging to protect from moisture
— Keep out of sight and reach of children
— Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
— Ask a pharmacist how to dispose of unused tablets safely

Warnings

  • Are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Are taking ritonavir or indinavir drugs.
  • Are over 75 years of age and are taking ketoconazole or itraconazole, anti-fungal medicines.
  • Have a severe heart or liver problem.
  • Are undergoing kidney dialysis.
  • Have had a stroke or heart attack.
  • Have or have had low blood pressure.
  • Vardenafil typically starts working within 30 to 60 minutes after taking it. However, this can vary depending on individual response and whether you’ve eaten a heavy meal beforehand.
  • The effects usually last for around 4 to 5 hours, giving you a window to engage in sexual activity. Keep in mind that sexual stimulation is still required for it to work.
  • Vardenafil can be taken with or without food, but a heavy or high-fat meal may delay its effects. Avoid excessive alcohol, as it can make it harder to get or maintain an erection and may increase the risk of side effects like dizziness.
  • Vardenafil is taken only when needed, about an hour before sex. It’s not a daily medication, so there’s no risk of missing a regular dose.
  • It depends. Avoid using Vardenafil with nitrates, certain heart medications, or other ED treatments, as this could cause serious health risks. Always check with your GP or pharmacist before combining it with any other medicine.
